About Rei:  (this is in the no spoilers section of my page)  Rei Ayanami is the First Child.  She isn't very socialable and she doesn't talk much, but that hasn't stopped thousands of Eva fans from liking her.  She has unique blue hair, dislikes meat, hates the color red, and has a very mysterious past.  It was eraticated.  Evangelion Unit-00 rejected her the first time she tried to sync with it, and she was trapped inside the Eva.  Gendo rescued her from an overheated entry plug, and that is one of the reasons why she has such a bond with him.  She obeys orders very well and hardly raises an argument.  She has the lowest sync ratio.

Rei's past:  Rei's past is eradicated, and we only know bits and pieces of it.  She was cloned from Yui Ikari, wife of Gendo Rokubunji.  Because of this, Rei is confused as to whether or not she is really human.  She is one of the keys to the instrumentality project, the only way Gendo can see his wife again, after Yui was absorbed into Evangelion Unit One.  Rei is the core of the dummy system.  There are a lot of Rei's, though only three lived and had souls.

Rei I:  Rei one is one of the shortest-lived Reis.  She appeared at mysteriously came into existence a short time after Yui's absorbtion into Unit One, and Gendo called her "the daughter of a friend" so he could keep secret that she was really the clone of Yui.  Only a few people knew of the cloning.  Gendo himself, Fuyutsuki, and later, Naoko Akagi, Ritsuko Akagi's mother.  A short time after Rei arrived at headquarters, she was found by Dr. Naoko Akagi, and Rei revealed (with that child's innocence and truth) that Gendo never really cared for Naoko (an affair had been going between the two even BEFORE Yui's death), and Naoko was only used so that the MAGI would be finished.  Naoko strangled Rei and then killed herself.  (Click on the above picture to see a larger version)

Rei II:  Rei II came after Rei I, and went into the 7th grade.  (It is unknown as to if Rei II had been around ever since Rei I's death, or if she was created just before the 7th grade started for her "age" group.  (Rei is not really 14, though she has the appearance of that age)  She was the Rei that everyone knew and grew to love (or hate).  She was the kindest of the three Rei's, and the one that I liked the most (and most other people liked the most as well).  She was cold in the beginning, but soon grew to learn emotion such as fear and love (if not male:female love, it was mother:son love).  She died sacrificing herself to destroy the sixteenth Angel, Armisael, and to save Shinji's life.  (Click on the above picture to see a larger version)

Rei III:  This Rei came almost directly after Rei II's death in genesis: 012.  She was cold and uncaring, and she even hated Gendo, unlike the other two Rei's.  This Rei does not fight to keep 3rd impact from occuring, like Rei II (Unit 00 was destroyed when Rei II sacrificed herself), and instead this Rei sought to cause 3rd impact.  She rejects Gendo and trashes the glasses that Rei II cherished, and then causes 3rd impact.  Gendo had been trying to merge with Rei when she rejected him, and she took off his right hand.  She then went to go help Shinji.  I hate this Rei.  This may be the only Rei that has a truly human soul and the 16th Angel gave it to her so that Rei would see what Gendo was really doing.  (Click on the above picture to see a larger version)

Rei IV:  This Rei isn't really one of the clones, but a Rei from Shinji's parrallel world, or what I call "The World that could've been" from genesis 0:13.  This Rei is the way she could have acted had she chosen too.  Her attitude is a complete opposite of the Rei everyone knows and loves...and I happen to know people who like this Rei and aren't too fond of the other 3.  Rei IV is basically a normal girl, she is really hyper and she almost as Asuka's attitude...almost.  Except she seems more hyper than Asuka-like.  She wears a different school uniform than usual and is really a happy person, or so it seems.  She is a new student coming to Tokyo-3 because it is going to become the new capital.  (Click on the above picture to see a larger version)
